Fixing the Fells at The Langdale Pikes this summer

Each and every visitor to the Lake District can do their bit to conserve and protect this beautiful region but there are times when a little extra help is required. That’s where Fix the Fells rangers come in repairing and maintaining paths, bridges, walls and fencing throughout the year.

Such work is demanding, costly and often challenging when it comes to some remote locations in the Lake District National Park but these obstacles are all in a days work for Nurture Lakeland rangers. A recent project has been completed on the lower slopes of The Langdale Pikes at Stickle Ghyll. This area is one of the busiest in the Lake District so path erosion is always a issue. With the help of the Visitor Giving scheme at the Langdale Hotel & Spa, the project was able to go ahead and to be completed in time for the autumn. This was an extensive renovation project with soil having to be imported to site along with tonnes of landscaping stones to recreate the path.

The Visitor Giving scheme is organised by Nurture Lakeland and the Langdale Hotel & Spa have been supporters for many years now. The guest donation is voluntary at the time of booking with nearly 100% of guests supporting. Head across to Langdale’s pub the Wainwright’s Inn and even donate whilst enjoying a pint of the Jenning’s Nurture Lakeland Ale where 5p from every pint is donated to the organisation.
